Niagara College Canada Returns to Alba Accademia Alberghiera for the Piedmontese Heritage Course
In October, Alba Accademia Alberghiera welcomed 14 culinary students from Niagara College for the second consecutive year. Chef instructors Oscar Turchi and Erik Mauke accompanied the group for the international Piedmontese Heritage course.
Niagara College, which serves over 10,000 students and is ranked as Canada’s top research college, included the Alba Accademia Alberghiera course in its Be World Ready program, which promotes and fosters international learning experiences focused on cultural exchange.
This significant return confirming the partnership between Alba Accademia Alberghiera and Niagara College, took place in the fall, the most representative season of the Langhe, known worldwide for its gastronomy and local biodiversity.
During their stay in Alba, students experienced hands-on workshops led by head chef of Alba Accademia Alberghiera, Paolo Taricco, learning the important role culture plays in the Italian kitchen.
Didactic visits to producers of the territory included Agrimacelleria Pavaglione by Giancarlo Accomo, Barolo winery Ettore Germano in Serralunga d’Alba, the Aloi family, known for truffle hunting and dedication to Piedmont traditions, and Renato Maunero, shepherd and producer of Robiola di Cherasco De.C.O., a Slow Food Presidium cheese made from raw goat milk.
President Paolo Zoccola expressed his pride in the strengthening of educational and cultural ties between Italy and Canada.
"Alba Accademia Alberghiera has become an internationally recognized benchmark for Italian wine & food training," said Antonio Bosio, Director of Apro Formazione. "The return of Niagara College students, along with other international students, confirms our ability to act as a cultural bridge between our international partners and the excellence of our region.
